What can I get out of my training from With Child, LLC?

As a new doula I had a wonderful mentor who allowed me to shadow her, met with me to talk about the business and shared the forms and paperwork that she had with me.  I look back on that with great appreciation for the time and mothering that she gave me.  Because of this I am including as much mentorship into my training program as is possible.

Now, obviously I can't allow everyone I train to shadow me to births.  But I can be here via email and phone to talk about the business.  I have a section of my web site devoted to forms and handouts that you can share with your clients.  Included in the price of your training is my devotion to answering your questions along your certification path and even after, additional PDF handouts and forms that I use with my clients and students, a supplemental to your CAPPA training manual that takes you through all we discussed at your training.  In short I will do all I can to help you become a better doula.

Steps to becoming a Doula

1.  Ask the questions and read up on the doula lifestyle to see if this is right for you.

2.  Become a member of Childbirth and Postpartum Professionals Association.  This is the organization through which I train.

3.   Enter certification program by purchasing the labor doula certification packet.

4.  Read five books from the CAPPA  reading list

5.  Attend a CAPPA approved Labor Doula training.  Click here to see my schedule.

6.  Complete Pre-workshop Study guide and bring to the training. [If you complete this you may send it to me before your training.  I will make corrections or comments and return it to you at your training.]

7.  Pass a test on basic labor doula skills and knowledge. The test is an open book test and the answer sheet must be submitted with your final certification. 85% passing grade required

8.  Attend a childbirth education class. The class must be taught by a certified childbirth educator (proof required) and write a short synopsis of what you learned. [I would happy to have you attend this before attending the training.]

9.  Attend three labors/births as a doula. Submit copies of good evaluations from the parents, from a doctor or midwife, and from a nurse (total of 3 evaluations for each birth) from each birth. These births must be attended after the CAPPA labor doula training.

10.  In order for candidates to be eligible for CAPPA certification they must sign and agree to the CAPPA philosophy, code of conduct, scope of practice and grievance policy.

Upon successful completion of any of the CAPPA certification programs, you will receive a CAPPA  name tag and a certificate.

**CAPPA reserves the right to withhold certification to those candidates that do not meet the requirements set forth. CAPPA also reserves the right to withhold certification based on all contact with candidates for certification, including , but not limited to phone calls, e-mails, and certification materials. An understanding of CAPPA standards of professionalism, our scope of practice and code of conduct must be demonstrated by candidates at all times and in all communications. Failure to demonstrate an understanding of the aforementioned may result in CAPPA withholding certification. This is rare.
